Report which confirms Russia’s direct military engagement in the conflict in Ukraine will be presented in Riga

baneris eng reģThe presentation and discussion on the report regarding Russia’s military presence in Ukraine: “Hiding in Plain Sight: Putin’s War in Ukraine”, will be held on June 17th, 11:30 a.m. at The Latvian War Museum. The publisher of this report is the international think-tank Atlantic Council and it is the result of Working Group launched to examine direct Russian military involvement in Ukraine and substantial evidence of the presence of Russian troops in Ukraine.

The discussion will include presentations by Eliot Higgins and Maks Czuperski – two authors of the report – who will introduce the main conclusion of the report, followed by reflections and Latvian perspective from Maris Cepuritis, researcher at the Centre for East European Policy Studies (CEEPS). Andis Kudors, executive director of the CEEPS, will moderate the discussion.

By using the most up to date research methods in journalism and sources of public information, authors of this report reveal obvious inconsistencies in the Russia’s official position, which is based on denying the presence of Russia’s armed forces in Ukraine and its direct engagement in the on-going conflict, especially in the Donbas region.

Based upon open source information, the report gives evidence of the movement and use of Russia’s military equipment and exposes Russia’s military personnel deployment and military action in the territory of Ukraine.

During the event the authors of the report will introduce the methods that they have used to gather the necessary information at the time of their research. The authors will also share the propositions that have been developed to improve the situation in Ukraine.

Policy makers, experts, media representatives, students and other who are interested in this theme are welcome to participate in the event. The working language will be English.

The discussion is organized by the Centre for East European Policy Studies in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Latvia.
