On October 4, the Executive director and researcher of Centre for East European Policy Studies Andis Kudors participates in consultative seminar “Russian Soft Power, Regional Security and National Minorities” organized by OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities. The event takes place in Hague with the participation of foreign policy experts from different countries.

A. Kudors will explain those aspects of Russia’s soft power that leave negative impact on unity of society of Latvia and increases tension in ethnic relations.

Some of the points to be discussed in the seminar:

What are the main methods of implementation of Russian soft power in the OSCE region and how does this vary in different countries? What trends can be seen in the evolution of soft power methods and their effectiveness?

What particular role do the Russian language and Russian media play as part of the soft power approach?

What are the main characteristics and goals of Russian policy toward Russian “compatriots” abroad?

How should Russia’s promotion of Eurasian economic integration be seen in the context of Russian soft power?

What is the role of organizations such as Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Institute of Human Rights both outside and inside Russia?

What is the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the promotion of Russian values abroad and fostering ties with compatriots? Etc.

The seminar will help to raise awareness of OSCE about implementation and results of Russia’s soft power in OSCE countries.
